Troy and I decided to introduce Ashton to skiing this year. He loves any sport and loves trying new things. In addition, he water-skied last summer and did great at it, so we thought he might take a liking to snow skiing as well?! At least he can have the opportunity to see for himself.
I can't tell you how many times (especially living back east) that people find out you are born and raised in Utah, yet don't snow ski and they fall over backwards in their chair. It is kind of embarrassing actually. I always hum and hah and try to get around the topic. When you think about it, it is kind of sad that so many of us "Utahans" don't take advantage of the winter time and living in an amazing place where skiing is so attainable. People come here from all over the country and world to ski!
I personally never snow skied until i was in high school (if you call "skiing" what i did)- and even then, i only tried it once or twice. And to be honest, i was petrified and never cared to do it again. And Troy hadn't been since he was 18 or 19... so we knew we would be in for a challenge to teach Ashton ourselves...when we both were a bit rusty to say the least. Therefore, we asked my cute sister-in-law, Sheri, to come up with us and give him a lesson...since she used to teach ski lessons and she has also taught her 5 kids to all ski.
So apart from Ashton, i personally was really NOT looking forward to going. It scares me when i am at the top of a mountain and i know that i have to somehow get to the bottom. I remembered that gut-wrenching feeling i had when i had tried it 15 years ago. So, aside from Ashton- i really was coming out of my comfort zone to even attempt it again. But i was going along to be with Ashton for his first time.
And to our pleasant surprise.... Sheri's dad is a ski instructor at the Canyons and just so happened to be working that day yet didn't have any clients to teach b/c it was a slow day. Therefore, he spent the entire day with Troy and me teaching us the ropes while Sheri spent the day with Ashy. We had PRIVATE LESSONS for free!!! He was an amazing teacher and taught us the basics...which unfortunately most people don't get and they just throw themselves in it and hope they are doing it correctly. So we were pumped!
It was a beautiful, sunny day and we were so happy we made the effort and did it. Ashton loved it and did such a great job...he was skiing on his own without help in no time.
Now if someone asks if we are skiers... we can say "YESSS!!" Wahhhoooo!
(O.K. ... fine... not really)

Well you must have been learning something if you could ski AND take a picture. Good for you, I intend on never skiing again so I will live through your exploits.
That is awesome!! Way to take advantage of your surroundings. Ashton- you are such a stud!!
How fun for him! He is doing awesome for his first time. Way better than I did and I was in Junior High. He's got skillz!
